“We got to within 20 miles of the campground and found out it was (and had been for some time) closed due to an ongoing wildfire. A little heads up would have been nice. A refund would be appropriate. ”
“Great campsite. Clean bathrooms well stocked with toilette paper. Very nice camp hosts. Absolutely beautiful place. ”
“Not a level spot anywhere. Not a great group site. Tables were destroyed and dangerous. ”

Perched at about 8,000 feet on the western flank of the Wind River Range, Green River Lakes Campground sits along the shore of Lower Green River Lake with Square Top Mountain (11,581 feet) looming above. The landscape is open dotted with lodgepole pines that provide only patchy shade and rewards visitors with wildflower displays and routine wildlife sightings in summer. The lake itself is limited to small watercraft, so it's a good place for canoeing or kayaking from a primitive carry-down launch and for fishing; anglers come here for brook, cutthroat, rainbow and mackinaw trout. Foot and horse travel are major draws: trailheads for routes into the Bridger Wilderness and farther into the Wind River Range are immediately accessible, including sections of the Continental Divide Trail, the Highline Trail and a short Lakeside Trail. A horse corral and water trough sit just outside the campground, making multi-day pack or horseback trips possible straight from camp. The campground's facilities are straightforward and geared to group use and rustic comfort. Vault toilets and drinking water are provided, a campground host may be on site, and roads and parking spurs are dirt. The site inventory is reported as 41 total campsites all listed as suitable for both RVs and tents and the developed area includes three large-group sites (Sites A and B accommodate up to 35 people each; Site C up to 50) plus a set of single sites described on site as 36 first-come/first-served units; the single sites do not take reservations. Group parking spurs are not designed for very large RVs or trailers. Access requires a long drive off paved highways: from Pinedale you travel roughly 50 miles north, including a stretch of dirt road after the pavement ends; while two-wheel-drive vehicles can usually make the trip, weather can render the road impassable except to 4WD call the Bridger-Teton district office for current road conditions, seasonal openings and fee information before you head out.
