Little Cottonwood Group Campground sits at about 5,700 feet on the rim of Snake River Canyon roughly 30 miles south of Jackson, Wyoming, with the Snake River running below the site down the hillside. The campground consists of a single group site (total campsites: 1) that accommodates up to 40 people and is set among pine and aspen that give partial shade and support a show of summer wildflowers. The site accepts both tents and RVs, but the parking area inside the campground is dirt and there are no electrical hookups, so plan for a self-contained RV or dry camping. Picnic tables, a defined campfire circle, and metal food-storage lockers are provided (important in bear country), and visitors will find vault toilets, drinking water, and trash collection on site. Recreation centers on the nearby Snake River a short walk or quick drive down the canyon gains access for fly-fishing (cutthroat, rainbow, and brown trout), whitewater rafting, and kayaking; a public boat ramp is also nearby. Beyond river activities, the broader Bridger-Teton National Forest offers auto touring, hiking, horseback riding, biking, wildlife viewing, hunting, boating, picnicking, and winter sports, while Grand Teton National Park and the town of Jackson (services and seasonal recreation) lie within about a 30 40 mile drive. Because there is only one group site, groups should check current fees, seasonal opening dates, and reservation or permit requirements with the Bridger-Teton National Forest office or official website before arriving and be prepared for limited facilities and primitive road/parking conditions.
