Bakers Run Campground sits in the wooded hills on the shores of Sutton Lake and alongside tributaries of the Elk River, a stretch of water noted for the state's highest species diversity; anglers here commonly fish for bass, crappie, catfish, bluegill and walleye, and you'll see fishermen along Tunnel Road and other lake accesses. The site offers 75 campsites all 75 can accommodate both RVs and tents placed among shady forest and open spaces that bring wildlife into view: wild turkeys, whitetail deer and other woodland species are often heard or sighted because the campground is surrounded by the Elk River Wildlife Management Area. Within the campground you'll find a shower house and restrooms, a playground with swings, plus informal game areas such as horseshoe pits, bean bag toss, a volleyball area and a basketball court, making it easy to fill a day without leaving camp. Sutton Lake supports a range of activities beyond fishing boating and other water sports, picnicking, hiking and wildlife viewing are all common, and nearby developed areas add amenities: Sutton Dam and Downstream provide tailwater fishing access, picnic shelters, a playground and trail access; Bee Run has a boat launch, marina and swimming beach; Gerald R. Freeman Campground is a larger nearby option that can be reserved through recreation.gov. Bakers Run is reached from the Sutton area east of I-79 (the project office is about 1 mile east of Sutton), and drivers should be aware that local roads can confuse GPS units the campground is reached after crossing a set of railroad tracks on Centralia Road, with the campground on the left. Fees are handled by credit or debit card only; because reservation and seasonal details are not specified here, check current Forest Service or Corps listings before you go.
