About

Riffle Run Campground sits on the shore of Burnsville Lake in central West Virginia, where tree-lined, hilly terrain at the western edge of the Allegheny Plateau gives way to the water and trail networks along the Little Kanawha River. The campground contains 60 campsites in total: 54 full hook-up sites with 50-amp electric service, water and sewer hookups, and six primitive sites without hookups; every site is suitable for both RVs and tents. Sites are arranged among mature hardwoods that provide shade and separation between campsites, and the developed loop includes a restroom building with showers and a laundry facility, playgrounds for children, and a nearby boat ramp just before the campground entrance. Four reservable picnic shelters elsewhere at the lake accommodate larger gatherings, while the marina near the ramp offers boat storage and a central spot for gearing up for the water. The setting supports a wide range of activities: boating and water sports from the marina (which rents boats and jet skis and runs seasonal tours), fishing and wildlife viewing on Burnsville Lake, and more than 100 miles of multiuse trails for hiking and biking in the surrounding recreation area. The broader Burnsville Lake complex also includes a visitor center, space for environmental education programs, playgrounds and sport sites, and the Bulltown Historical Village for a look at Civil War era pioneer life; hunting is a noted local activity in season. Sites at Riffle Run are non-reservable and generally managed on a first-come, first-served basis, so plan accordingly check current fees, seasonal hours (including marina services), and any access notices on the Corps of Engineers or park website before you go.
