“Thanks to the staff and volunteers. We stayed twice this year during Gauley season! Easy check in . The RV folks camping there were quiet and good neighbors to us tent campers.”
“The host was very nice. Will be back next year.”

2981 SUMMERSVILLE LAKE ROAD
Open in Google Maps ↗
Battle Run sits on the southern edge of Summersville Lake, the state's largest reservoir, where sheer sandstone cliffs and quiet coves frame roughly 2,790 acres of water and about 60 miles of shoreline. The lake's clear water draws boaters, water-skiers, swimmers and scuba divers, while anglers head for large- and smallmouth bass, walleye, panfish and catfish; trout are stocked below the dam each spring and fall. The campground is also a convenient base for land-based pursuits: dense stands of maple, oak, hickory, beech and birch give way to picnic spots, short nature walks and wildlife viewing (expect deer, turkey, grouse and occasional black bear). For higher-adrenaline outings, the Gauley River famous for its whitewater rafting and technical rock climbing in the nearby New River Gorge (about 18 miles south, with over 1,400 established routes on sandstone cliffs ranging roughly 30 120 feet) are both within easy reach. Historic Carnifex Ferry Battlefield State Park and its museum are a roughly ten-minute drive away; Summersville's shops and services lie a few miles north, and the marina and dive shop are about 11 miles from the campground. The campground itself contains 114 total campsites, configured so 107 sites accommodate both RVs and tents and 7 sites are tent-only primitive walk-to locations; sites are grouped into seven loops (Loop A: 4 sites; Loop B: 14 sites; Loop C: 22 sites; Loop D: 15 sites; Loop E: 22 sites; Loop F (Peninsula): 21 sites; Loop G: 16 sites). Many sites offer electric hookups, and the park supports overnight stays with flush toilets, showers, drinking water, on-site laundry and a dump station; an accessible boat ramp and fishing dock put the water within easy reach, while a playground and shaded nature trails make the campground family-friendly. Because fees, reservation procedures and seasonal schedules can change, plan to check the park's official information before you go; the campground is reached from State Route 129 at Mt. Nebo, about three miles west of U.S. 19, just south of Summersville.
