Danielle T ★ 3 · Jul 2025I was very disappointed in the information and picture given for reserving sites. I reserved what I thought would be a good site for us and our small camper and it was a terrible site. We ended up taking a different one and my sister used the one I reserved. We had a group of about 40 with us and this happened to two other people who reserved sites as well. Either make them all reservable or all first come first get. Or provide much better pictures and descriptions of sites that are reservable.
Barbara W ★ 4 · Jul 2025Nice quiet campground. We were able to get cell service lakeside, but not in the lower part of the campground. Our campsite has very uneven terrain. Very sloped and hilly. Large, spacious site. But it’s uneven terrain makes it difficult to park more than one vehicle, walk around or set lawn chairs leveled and sturdy around the fire pit.
Barbara W ★ 4 · Jul 2025Our campsite was spacious and large. There were a few inconveniences with it. First, it’s on a hill so it slopes down toward the lake. The camper pad was flat. The tent pad was more or less flat. But the rest is very uneven. It was inconvenient for setting chairs around the fire and setting up canopies. It was difficult for my elderly mother to walk around in. The path down to the lake was steep and very root covered and in some spots difficult to walk down. Nothing unusual, just not great. Very quiet in the campground. Boaters and skiers are prevalent on the weekends. But only between approved times of 11 am to 4 pm. This gives morning and evening time no wake hours which is nice.

Boot Lake Campground sits on the northwest corner of a clear, 263-acre lake, occupying a quiet finger of water rimmed by mixed hardwoods and pines. The site provides 33 campsites, and each is designated for both RVs and tents; roads within the campground are paved for easy access. Campers will find basic but useful services on site: a swim beach and picnic area, a boat landing for launching kayaks or small boats, drinking water, and vault toilets. The lake drops to about 38 feet in places, which, combined with its clarity, makes scuba diving an increasingly popular activity here. Access to the campground is from County T south of Townsend (roughly a few miles from town); use is generally heavy through the summer, so plan accordingly and check the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest recreation pages for current fees, seasonal openings, and reservation details before you arrive. Outdoor options cluster right around the campground and expand across the forest. Fishing off the shore or from a boat is a primary draw Boot Lake supports walleye, northern pike, bass, musky, and panfish, while nearby streams hold trout and the Wolf River offers paddling, rafting and canoeing on longer runs. A trail from the campground links into the Jones Springs Non-Motorized Area just to the west, where hikers, hunters and cross-country skiers can head into quieter terrain; Cathedral Pines Trail lies about four miles away for a short excursion any time of year. Beyond water sports and hiking, the broader Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest supports a wide range of recreation biking, wildlife viewing, OHV riding in designated areas, horseback riding, and scenic auto touring so Boot Lake can serve as both a simple lakeside getaway and a convenient base for exploring the region.
