What guests say

Verbatim from guest reviews on Recreation.gov ↗ (40 reviews, ★ 4.0). Not written or edited by us.

“This site is most private in campground, at least at night when there is no one putting boats in the water as it is near boat ramp. However, trees and a small hill are between you and the other sites.”

John P 5 · Jul 2023 · Recreation.gov

“I had a 21 ft trailer and it was by far the largest, I would not have wanted anything bigger. The sites are really big for tent camping. Right on the water hardly any road noise. ”

Kelly S 5 · Jul 2023 · Recreation.gov

About

Gorge Lake Campground sits at about 900' on the bank of Gorge Lake where the steady fall of Stetattle Creek is a constant backdrop. The site is small and simple: a total of 8 campsites, each set up to accommodate both tents and RVs, but this is a primitive facility there is no potable water or other services, and no hookups so come prepared with your own water supply and be ready to pack out everything you bring in. Vault toilets are provided, but gathering firewood is prohibited inside the park; commercially sourced firewood can be purchased just outside the park boundary. Sites sit just outside the tiny community of Diablo, immediately north of State Route 20 at milepost 126, offering quick access to the lakeshore without the trappings of a developed campground. Recreation from the site is straightforward and lake-focused: there's a boat launch on Gorge Lake for small boats and paddling, and anglers will find fishing from shore or water. Several trailheads are close by, including the Stetattle Creek and Sourdough Mountain trails, and the scenic overlooks at Diablo Lake and Ross Lake are a short drive away. The campground is about 20 miles (32 km) east of Marblemount and 67 miles (108 km) west of Winthrop, making it a convenient stopping point for exploring the western alpine reaches of North Cascades National Park. For current information on fees, reservations, seasonal openings and ranger-led programs (the North Cascades Visitor Center in Newhalem runs interpretive offerings during peak season), check the park website or contact the visitor center before your trip.
