“Beautiful park, great volunteer host. Was disappointed that the swimming beach was not available due to an algae bloom but that's not the park's fault. Will come back and bring the grandkids.”

Fishhook Park sits right on the shore of Lake Sacajawea in southeastern Washington, where the lower Snake River widens below Ice Harbor Lock and Dam and the landscape opens into arid, wide vistas punctuated by black-rock canyons. The park carries a bit of regional history it takes its name from the old Fishhook Rapids where Lewis and Clark made camp in October 1805 and today that same stretch of water draws boaters and anglers for salmon and steelhead fishing, water-skiing, swimming, and general lakeside recreation. A concrete boat ramp at the campground makes launching straightforward for small boats and tow sports, and if you want to watch migrating salmon and steelhead you can walk or drive about three miles downstream to the Ice Harbor Dam Visitor Center, which has viewing opportunities. The setting is mostly open and dry, though mature trees scattered through the park provide pockets of shade along the waterfront. The campground layout is clear and practical for a range of users: there are 52 campsites in all, with 40 sites in the main loop that accommodate both RVs and tents and a separate tent-only loop that contains 11 sites (the total tent-site count is 12), plus one day-use group picnic site. The 40 family RV/tent sites include electrical hookups, making the park friendly for tow-and-stay visitors as well as tent campers who want basic services; the tent-only loop offers quieter, more primitive pitches for walk-up campers. On-site amenities emphasize waterfront recreation and group picnicking rather than extensive development think boat access, shady trees, and grassy spots to spread out and the broader lake area supports hiking, upland hunting, wildlife viewing, environmental education programs, a visitor center downstream, playground and picnic areas, and other concession-style recreation.
