Charbonneau Park sits along the lower Snake River on Lake Sacajawea, a wide, open stretch of water formed by the Ice Harbor Lock and Dam. The campground's character is prairie-like broad grassy areas with a handful of larger shade trees rather than dense forest, and the regional climate is dry. There are 54 campsites in all: 52 sites configured to accommodate both RVs and tents and two tent-only sites. Many waterfront sites look directly onto the lake, and the park map also identifies a Day Use area and an Overlook area (each recorded as a single site in the inventory). Practical facilities include a boat ramp for putting in on the lake, two day-use group picnic shelters, and electric hookups at the family sites and picnic shelters, making it straightforward to support an RV or charge small appliances while camping. Recreational options center on the water but extend into upland pursuits: boating, swimming and a variety of water sports are common, and anglers come for salmon and steelhead; hunting and wildlife viewing are also part of the local mix. The Ice Harbor Dam Visitor Center, about three miles downstream, is the place to see migrating salmon and steelhead and to pick up interpretive information the lake area also supports playgrounds, picnic areas, hiking, environmental education programs and a concession presence for other services. Because the park is popular with families and boaters, check current reservation and fee information before you go; the presence of electric hookups and RV-capable sites makes it easy to plan extended stays, while the two tent-only sites offer a quieter option for lightweight campers. For orientation, Charbonneau is just east of Pasco near Burbank off Highway 124/Sun Harbor Drive, providing convenient highway access to this lower-Snake River lakeshore.
