“The camp group was in great shape. I was surprised at the amount of highway traffic noise you could hear in the middle of the night.”
“The park is well maintined with camp host and gate personnel, exceptional in their knowledge and duties about the area and the campgrounds.”

Plymouth Campground sits just outside the tiny community of Plymouth, Washington, with its day-use area and boat launch located on a small island in Lake Umatilla where the Columbia River widens behind John Day Lock and Dam. The loop contains a total of 32 campsites all 32 are configured to accommodate both RVs and tents and each site includes electrical hookups. Campground facilities are straightforward and serviceable: you'll find flush and pit toilets, hot showers, drinking water, a dump station, and a playground for kids; the day-use island adds a swim beach, a boat ramp, a courtesy dock and both flush and vault toilets. The landscape is typical high-desert river country, dotted with tall sage and stands of Russian olive; shade is limited, so sun protection or an awning is a good idea. For directions, the area is reached from State Route 14 near Plymouth, a drive of roughly 23 miles from Kennewick, with local roads leading down to the campground and the island launch area. Recreation at Plymouth focuses on water access and wildlife viewing: the nearby boat ramp gives easy entry to Lake Umatilla for boating, water skiing, sailboarding and general water sports, while anglers target Chinook, steelhead, walleye, sturgeon and shad from shore or boat. Beyond fishing and boating, the John Day Lock and Dam/Lake Umatilla area offers hiking, picnicking, a playground and wildlife viewing (mule deer, waterfowl and raptors are commonly seen); a recreation concession site is also available in the broader recreation complex. McNary Dam and the Visitor Center, plus Lake Wallula, are only a couple of miles upstream if you want additional boat access or interpretive exhibits. Fees, reservation rules and seasonal availability are not specified here, so check the official managing agency's information before you go to confirm current policies and any seasonal closures.
