“This group site does not accommodate the amount of people it says. Maybe 10 people max, not 60. There is little to no shade and no way to access the river either. It is quite underwhelming. The individual sites were pretty nice. ”

Pine Flats Group Campground sits on the banks of the Mad River at about 1,621 feet, where stands of ponderosa pine give way to an open meadow that fills with spring wildflowers. The single campsite here is a group site that can accommodate up to 40 people and is configured to accept both RVs and tents, so it works for mixed-use groups that need a single, shared base. Birders and wildlife watchers will find plenty to look for mule deer, moose, bald and golden eagles, and a variety of woodpeckers and owls are often seen in the surrounding forest. For day-use recreation, the Lower Mad River Trail (#1409) begins immediately adjacent to the campground; that 14-mile route climbs toward the upper Mad River meadows and Klone Peak and is used by hikers, horseback riders, mountain bikers and motorcyclists, with notable spring wildflower viewing along the way. Facilities at the site are basic but serviceable: the group area includes picnic tables and a campfire circle, with vault toilets and a drinking-water source on site. Garbage service is provided during the main summer season, but groups are asked to "pack it in, pack it out" if trash cans are full or your party generates more waste than provided receptacles can hold. The verified site count for Pine Flats is one total campsite (the single group site); the description does not list reservation or fee details, so groups should check with the Entiat Ranger District for current fees, reservation policies and seasonal access conditions before arriving. Access to the campground is reached from the Wenatchee/Entiat area via Entiat Valley Road and Mad River Road onto Forest Road 5700, placing the campsite roughly 17 miles north of Wenatchee along the west side of the Columbia River and a short drive up the Mad River valley.
