“Such a great spot. Lots of space and very quiet during our visit. Great location close to Canyonlands, Dead Horse SP, and Moab. No running water, but there's a spigot to fill up at the Canyonlands visitor center. Shade awnings over the picnic tables were such a nice touch!”
“We rented a group site and had an excellent experience. This campground is close to many recreational opportunities in the Moab area. Quiet and clean facility. ”
“The group site worked great for our scout troop”

Horsethief Group Sites sits on a high mesa west of Moab at about 5,500 feet, among pinyon and juniper where open horizons make for striking sunrises and cooler summer evenings. There are five reservable group sites in total (verified campsite data: total campsites 5; site type breakdown lists 5 both RV and tent sites), but these group areas are intentionally small: each site is intended for 10 20 people and parking is limited to a maximum of six sedans/trucks/vans trailers, RVs and motorhomes are not permitted in these particular group spots. Group Site #39 is in the main campground while Sites A D sit in the adjacent tent-and-van-only area; amenities include shade shelters, picnic tables and a fire ring with grate at each group area, and a nearby vault toilet. There is no potable water, no dump station and no electrical hookups, so plan to bring sufficient water and supplies; the nightly fee for a group site (maximum 20 people) is $100 and reservations are handled through Recreation.gov. The campground is a convenient base for a wide range of desert recreation: mountain and road biking, hiking, four-wheel-drive tours and photography are all easily accessed from Horsethief, and the site is commonly used by groups staging White Rim trips into Canyonlands. Canyonlands' Island in the Sky district and Dead Horse Point State Park are roughly a 10 15 minute drive away, Arches and other attractions are within easy day-trip distance, and Moab's services bike shops, outfitters and restaurants are about 25 minutes from the campground along Highway 191 and SR-313. Pay close attention to reservation policies: changes can be made via your Recreation.gov account prior to arrival (a $10 fee applies only if you change to dates wholly outside your original reservation; no fee to extend/shorten within the original dates or to move to another Horsethief group site for the same dates), cancellations incur a $10 service fee (late cancellations within 14 days of arrival also forfeit the first night), no-shows incur a $20 Recreation.gov fee plus forfeiture of the first night, and refunds must be requested through Recreation.gov within seven days of your departure. Interagency pass discounts do not apply to group reservations; for assistance with changes, cancellations or early departures contact the BLM Moab Field Office at 435-259-2100.
