Sunset Campground sits at about 8,000 feet on the high plateau of the Colorado Plateau, a short distance past the Visitor Center and within easy reach of Sunrise and Sunset Points at the rim of Bryce Amphitheater. The campground is shaded by ponderosa pines and set in a gently rolling patchwork of shrubs and summer wildflowers; from many sites you can look out toward the massed hoodoos that make Bryce Canyon the largest concentration of these rock spires on Earth. Hiking is the primary daytime draw trails in the park range from under a mile to about 11 miles and are often combined into longer routes that thread through the amphitheater and wildlife viewing is common among the trees. Nighttime is another highlight: Bryce is recognized for exceptionally dark skies (on a moonless night you can see roughly 7,500 stars), the park hosts an annual Astronomy Festival in June, offers astronomy and stargazing programs more than 100 nights a year, and has guided full-moon hikes for those who want to experience the formations after dusk. The campground has 101 sites divided among three loops A Loop has 48 sites, B Loop 17 sites, and C Loop 35 sites and the site inventory includes 48 RV sites, 52 tent sites, plus one site that serves both RV and tent campers. Amenities are straightforward and practical: gravel parking spurs, flush toilets, drinking water, picnic tables and metal fire rings with grills; the Bryce Canyon Shuttle (which runs in the bus season from May through September) stops at the campground entrance, and laundry and shower facilities are available in summer at the nearby general store. Group standard nonelectric site fees are set by party size: 7 10 people $55 per night; 11 15 people $70; 16 20 people $80; 21 25 people $90; and 26 30 people $100. Because site availability and reservation rules can change, check the park's official reservation system or visitor center for current booking procedures, seasonal openings and any access requirements before you arrive.
