About

Lakeland Pavilion sits on the eastern shore of Lavon Lake inside Lakeland Park and functions as a large-group picnic shelter and campground configured to handle gatherings of up to about 500 visitors. The covered shelter itself contains 12 picnic tables, four cookers, a campfire ring and both electric and water hookups, and sits adjacent to a broad, flat lawn used for Frisbee, soccer and other group sports. Official site records show one campsite on file that is set up to accept both RVs and tents, so the location works best for a single large party family reunions, scout groups or organized outings rather than multiple separate campsites. Lavon Lake is a substantial reservoir on the East Fork of the Trinity River, covering roughly 21,400 acres with a maximum depth near 59 feet; the pavilion provides ready access to the lake for boating and shoreline activities. For fees, reservations, seasonal hours and any vehicle or group access requirements, contact the park or managing agency before you arrive, since those details aren't included here. The recreational scene around the pavilion is focused on water and trail activities: boating and water sports on Lavon Lake, fishing for largemouth bass, white bass, blue catfish and crappie, and wildlife viewing along the shore. On land you'll find hiking and equestrian opportunities on the nearby Trinity Trail, plus nearby playground and specialized sport areas noted for group use; the broader Lavon Lake area also lists environmental education programs and concession-site services among its offerings. If you want a break from outdoor time, the Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary in McKinney is a short drive away and offers natural history exhibits and nature trails to round out a day trip. Because the pavilion is a single, large group site with utility hookups and fixed picnic facilities, plan ahead and reach out to park staff to confirm availability and any rules about group size, RVs or cooking fires.
