“Had a wonderful time. Staff was very nice. Everything was just a little unkept. Little pieces of trash in the campsite, bathrooms had trash on the ground. Other than that, had a wonderful time!”

About

Wilson H. Fox Park sits on the north shore of Granger Lake, its campsites set against the gently rolling hills of the Texas Blackland Prairie. The lake itself was formed when a 16,000-foot dam closed the San Gabriel River and Willis Creek in 1980 and has been open to the public since March 1981; anglers still come because Granger Lake is widely regarded as one of Central Texas's top five crappie and white bass fisheries. The campground has 50 sites in all 44 designed for both RVs and tents and 6 tent-only sites and every site includes water and electric hookups, a covered picnic table and a stand-up grill. On-site recreation centers on the water: a swimming beach, a fishing dock, two boat ramps and plenty of shoreline for casting, plus two playgrounds for families. Beyond boating and fishing you'll find picnicking, wildlife viewing and other park-area pursuits such as horseback riding and water sports across the broader Granger Lake recreation complex. Practical details matter here: the park is accessed from the Granger Dam area east of I-35 via Highway 79/95 and FM 1331, and the two concrete ramps make launching a boat straightforward when water levels allow. If you plan to fish, bring gear for catfish, white bass and crappie; if you want to hunt, archery hog hunting is permitted year-round just beyond the park boundary. Nearby attractions include the Pecan Grove Wildlife Area below the dam and the San Gabriel and Sore Finger wildlife areas for additional trails and viewing. Sites and facilities are managed as part of the Granger Lake recreation system, so check the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers or the park's reservation page for current fees, reservation policies, hookup specifics and any seasonal notices before you go.
