“Great park at the lake with nice sized sites. Will return.”

Patrick M 4 · Oct 2025 · Recreation.gov

“I stayed at campsite #3, lots of shades and quite, however there was no electricity, 20V didn’t work at all and I had to use the electricity of the neighbor campsite, so disappointed.”

About

Cedar Breaks Park sits on the south shore of Georgetown Lake in the central Texas Hill Country, roughly four miles west of the town of Georgetown and about 25 miles north of Austin. The lake itself is a reservoir on the north fork of the San Gabriel River, created when the dam was completed in 1979 to provide flood control and water supply; around the shoreline you'll find forests dominated by cedar and mixed hardwoods rather than open, manicured lawns. The campground offers 64 reservable sites, each set up to serve both RVs and tent campers, and provides basic conveniences like electric hookups and flush toilets. Boaters will appreciate the on-site boat ramp and access to the lake's wide open water; two group picnic shelters stand ready for family reunions or larger cookouts, while nearby Georgetown supplies gas, groceries and a lively historic square for evenings off the water. The park is reached easily from I-35 via Farm-to-Market Road 2338, with simple local signage leading to the park entrance. Recreation here centers on the lake and the surrounding natural corridor: boating and water sports are popular, and fishing is strong year-round with a mix of Black bass, White bass, Hybrid stripers, White crappie, Channel and Flathead catfish the lake is particularly notable for its abundance of Smallmouth bass. The San Gabriel River Trail is a rugged 26-mile route that winds through juniper, hardwood bottomlands and prairie, and it circles Georgetown Lake via the dam; the trail is open to both hikers and bikers. Hunting for small game, waterfowl and white-tailed deer is allowed by permit only, so plan ahead if you intend to hunt. Reservations are required for the reservable sites and there are firm cancellation and refund rules to note: once a reservation date has begun you cannot change it online, by phone or on-site; individual campsite cancellations made up to two days before arrival incur a $10 fee, while cancellations the day before or on arrival carry a $10 service fee and the forfeiture of the first night's use fee (one-night reservations forfeit the entire amount paid). Group facility cancellations under 14 days also incur fees and forfeitures, cancellation fees are non-refundable, and refund requests can be submitted online up to seven days after your scheduled departure (after that, refunds must be requested through the call center).
