Rocky Creek Park sits on the east side of Benbrook Lake amid rolling prairie and wooded creekside hills, a short drive southwest of Fort Worth and within easy reach of the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex. The campground itself is small and primitive: there are 11 total campsites, and all 11 are configured to accommodate both RVs and tents, but sites do not have utility hookups. Drinking water and vault toilets are provided, and boat-launching ramps are available in the picnic areas and at the campground. The main picnic area occupies an open peninsula below wooded slopes while the wooded campground perches up along Rocky Creek; several miles of hiking and horseback trails radiate out from the park for riders and hikers who want to explore the surrounding ridges and meadows. In terms of recreation, Rocky Creek Park offers on-site fishing, boating, picnicking and birdwatching, with broader Benbrook Lake facilities supporting water sports, a concession site, playgrounds and other specialized park features spread around the lake. Seasonal primitive camping may be available, so plan ahead: because the campground is primitive and small, check the Benbrook Lake website for current fees, reservation policies and seasonal openings before you go. Access to Rocky Creek Park is from Granbury Road or McPherson Road (Rocky Creek Park Road leads roughly one mile to the park entrance), and the setting makes a convenient base for a day trip into Fort Worth to visit the Stockyards, botanical gardens, zoo or the Amon Carter and Kimball art museums.
