“I don’t really want to write about how special and beautiful this campsite is because I want it to stay a secret.”
“Well-maintained and beautiful campground. Nearby trails are easily accessible and great for a quick out-and-back or a day hike loop around. ”

Abram's Creek Campground occupies a quieter corner of Great Smoky Mountains National Park, set alongside the creek that gives it its name and reached from US-129 (Alcoa Highway) near the Foothills Parkway exit and the Abram's Creek Ranger Station the campground sits about a half mile beyond the station. At 1,125 feet elevation the site sees mild winters and hot, humid summers; the low, rolling ridges here are forested and the steady murmur of Abram's Creek is a constant backdrop. The campground is small and intentionally rustic: there are 16 total campsites, 12 of which will accommodate both RVs and tents and four that are tent-only. Basic conveniences include flush toilets and drinking water, but there are no electrical or sewer hookups and no showers, so plan to be self-sufficient. There is no street address for the campground, which contributes to the sense of remoteness and generally lighter crowds than more developed Smokies campgrounds. The site is well positioned for the Smokies' signature activities hiking and fishing are the principal draws here. Several trailheads are reachable from camp and from the nearby ranger station; one popular route is the Little Bottoms Trail to Abram's Waterfall (about an 8-mile round trip), though the park strongly advises against swimming at the falls because of dangerous undercurrents and a history of drownings. Anglers find high-quality trout water in Abram's Creek itself, and fly fishing tends to be especially productive in spring hatches; Chilhowee Lake, less than 10 miles away off US-129, offers canoeing, kayaking and additional fishing opportunities. Wildlife viewers should be alert black bears are common in the park and history buffs can explore more than 90 preserved log buildings and other structures scattered through the Smokies. If you have a reservation, note the campground's cancellation policies: you must contact the campground office at 865-448-4103 if you will arrive after your scheduled date to avoid cancellation, and same-day cancellations require calling that number to receive a refund. Cancelling the day before or on arrival generally incurs a $10 service fee and forfeiture of the first night's fee (one-night reservations forfeited in full), and early-departure refunds must be requested by contacting the office on the day you leave or were due to check in; after-the-fact refund requests are denied. For full rules and reservation policies, see the Recreation.gov rules page.
