About

Look Rock Campground sits along the Foothills Parkway West in the higher, wooded country of Great Smoky Mountains National Park, offering a quieter, more open-ridge feel than many lower-elevation sites in the park. The loop contains 68 campsites in total: 59 that will accommodate both RVs and tents, 4 reserved for RVs, and 5 tent-only sites. Each site comes with a picnic table, tent pad and fire ring; ten sites provide electrical hookups and a number of sites can handle large camper trailers, so be sure to reserve a site that fits your gear. Facilities are straightforward and well maintained flush toilets, drinking water, and a dump station are on site, but there are no shower facilities, so plan accordingly. For facility-specific questions or to confirm site type and availability, call the campground office at (865) 448-4103. The campground is a convenient base for exploring the high-country attractions nearby rather than a trailhead itself: hiking directly from Look Rock is limited, but the park's extensive trail network (more than 800 miles) is a short drive away, and trout fishing is excellent on Chilhowee, Calderwood and Cheoah lakes and the many streams in the area. The Look Rock observation tower and adjacent picnic area are within easy reach and reward visitors with wide scenic views; for a different kind of drive, the Foothills Parkway West offers many pulloffs for photography and sightseeing and State Route 129 the "Tail of the Dragon" is nearby for those seeking a famously twisty road. Practical notes: some GPS routes (Montvale Rd, Happy Valley Rd or Flats Rd) are not recommended for trailers or larger vehicles, so follow Foothills Parkway access via US-321 from Maryville or Pigeon Forge. Cancellation and refund policies are strict: cancelling the day before or on your arrival date incurs a $10 service fee plus forfeiture of the first night's use fee (up to the total paid); one-night reservations forfeited in full if cancelled; and you must contact the campground office on the day you leave or were due to arrive to be eligible for a refund for early departure.
