Lost Lake Resort and Campground sits at the edge of Lost Lake with a clear line of sight to Mount Hood and its glaciers from the Lost Lake Butte viewpoint; on a calm morning the lake mirrors the snowy peak and surrounding forest. An interpretive old-growth boardwalk threads through one of Oregon's larger stands of old trees right at the site, and the surrounding topography is rugged and forested, with berry patches, birding opportunities and easy access to small waterfalls if you head toward nearby Wahtum Lake. The campground is in Hood River County (GPS 45.489840 N, 121.822578 W) and is reached by driving north from I-84 near the Hood River exits and then following Lost Lake Road to the resort, which the road dead-ends at; the journey from Portland is about 58 miles on I-84 to exit 62 and local roads from there. The immediate trail network provides short hikes and bike rides as well as connections into long-distance routes (the area's trails range from quarter-mile loops to hundred-mile networks across Mt. Hood National Forest), so you can spend an afternoon paddling and fishing on the lake or plan a multi-day trek into the surrounding forest and waterfalls. The campground is part of a full-service resort and offers a mix of overnight options and on-site conveniences: 83 total campsites composed of 64 RV sites, 15 tent sites and 4 sites that accommodate both RVs and tents, arranged across six loops (A: 22 sites, B: 15, C: 11, D: 24, F: 6, H: 5). In addition to group, family and single campsites, the resort operates cabins, yurts and lodge rooms and maintains an extensively stocked general store where you can rent canoes, kayaks, historic wooden rowboats, metal fishing boats and stand-up paddleboards, buy firewood and pick up basics. Each campsite includes a picnic table, a fire ring and a designated site area; drinking water is available at designated locations and pit toilets are located throughout the campground. Anglers come for species such as German brown trout and casual visitors appreciate swimming, wildlife viewing and the interpretive programs that the forest supports; note that the campground enforces a minimum three-night stay on weekends and holidays.
