Tall Chief Cove sits along the forested shoreline of Skiatook Lake where stands of blackjack and post oak give way to stretches of tall grass prairie and a shoreline punctuated by steep bluffs that look down over the water. The campground's 50 individual sites are arranged in three loops Loop A (25 sites), Loop B (9 sites) and Loop C (15 sites) which together contain 49 sites configured to accommodate both RVs and tents, plus one additional tent-only site. Families and anglers come for the lake: a designated swim beach, picnic areas, a short nature trail and a playground make the site-friendly for kids, while anglers target largemouth bass, black and white crappie, channel catfish and several species of sunfish. Beyond the developed area, roughly 6,000 acres of public land around the lake are open to hunters pursuing whitetail, quail, rabbit and squirrel, and the broader recreation map includes boating, hiking, water sports and wildlife viewing opportunities. The campground provides basic comforts alongside outdoor recreation: covered picnic tables, restrooms and showers, a group picnic shelter for up to 200 people, and on-site recreation including a volleyball court, basketball court, disc golf course and horseshoe pits that guests with reservations may use. Electric hookups are available at the individual sites, and the site mix (49 RV/tent-capable and 1 tent-only) makes it suitable for a range of rigs and tents; confirm hookup availability and site selection when you reserve. Tall Chief Cove is accessed from northeast Oklahoma follow Highway 75 north to State Highway 20, then head west toward Skiatook and follow Lake Road to the campground and the park advises checking current fees, seasonal openings and reservation policies before you go.
