Washington Irving South sits on the Arkansas arm of Keystone Lake, a shallow-fingered reservoir carved into small valleys and wooded ridgelines about 15 20 miles west of Tulsa (roughly a 30-minute drive). The campground is shaded by bottomland timber and post oak, with a short sandy beach, a dock and a concrete boat ramp close at hand, so mornings are often busy with anglers and boaters heading out across the lake's blue-green arms. A one-mile nature trail loops through the campground's trees, and a playground and open grass areas give families room to spread out between water activities such as boating, water skiing, swimming and fishing. Keystone Lake's fisheries are well known locally for striped, sand and black bass, smallmouth (lake strain), crappie and catfish, and you'll find additional downstream access at nearby Whitewater and Brush Creek parks; boat rentals are available from Keyport Marina and Pier 51 and commercial concessions around the lake carry basic supplies. The campground itself is divided into three shady loops and contains 21 total sites: 20 are configured for both RVs and tents and one is tent-only, with many sites offering water and electrical hookups. Onsite amenities include flush and pit toilets, showers, drinking water and a dump station; the setting supports year-round recreation though specifics on fees and reservation windows are handled by the managing office. If you want terrain beyond the shoreline, Appalachia Bay ("Motorcycle Island") a popular off-highway vehicle area with sandy trails and wooded sections is about 10 minutes away, while the Whitewater Park OHV area sits nearer the dam at roughly 15 minutes. Hunting and fishing on the lake follow state and federal regulations (state licenses required), copies of lake rules and regulations are available at the Keystone Project Office, and overnight lodging and additional services can be found at nearby communities and the cabins at Keystone State Park.
