Heyburn Park sits on Heyburn Lake in the Sandstone Hills of the Osage Section of the Central Lowlands, an area of grassland and gently sloping sandstone ridges dotted with oaks, hickory, ash, elm and cottonwood; in spring the hills brighten with wild plum and redbud blooms. The campground contains 48 sites in total: 47 are equipped to serve both RVs and tents with water and electric hookups (some sites offer 50-amp service), and one site is tent-only. Camp infrastructure supports boating and lakeside recreation with a two-lane boat ramp and a courtesy dock, two restroom/shower buildings, a playground, two group shelters (one with adjacent 50-amp camping sites and one day-use shelter beside the swim beach), and a large swim beach furnished with picnic tables. The layout and services make the park practical for families and RV travelers who want easy lake access without giving up basic campground comforts. Recreation at Heyburn Lake centers on water: boating, water skiing and other water sports are common, and the lake fishes well for crappie, bass and catfish. Beyond the water, picnicking, a playground and wildlife viewing are on offer within the project area, and during hunting season the surrounding Heyburn Public Hunting Area more than 6,000 acres of project lands opens opportunities for waterfowl, whitetail deer, squirrel, rabbit, quail and wild turkey hunters. Several named park areas, including Sunset Bay, Overlook and Sheppard Point, invite short explorations around the lake; Keystone Lake sits about 25 miles to the north and Tulsa is under 30 miles to the northeast for anyone wanting a day trip to town. Access is via paved county roads from nearby Kellyville (and about nine miles east of Bristow), and because fees, reservation policies and seasonal schedules can vary, plan to contact the park office or the managing agency before you arrive.
