Post Oak Park sits on the shore of Copan Lake in Oklahoma's Green Country, where the 4,850-acre reservoir on the Little Caney River meets a patchwork of grasslands and croplands. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers manages roughly 12,000 acres around the lake, and about 11,000 acres have been set aside for wildlife management habitat that supports public hunting for deer, waterfowl, quail, turkey, cottontail rabbit and squirrel. Anglers come here for largemouth bass, white crappie, channel and flathead catfish and a variety of sunfish; the shoreline location of the campground makes it easy to get out on the water for boating, swimming, or shore fishing. Hikers and riders can follow roughly 3 miles of trails that thread through wooded stretches and open lakeshore meadows, and picnicking is a common daytime activity along the water's edge. The campground itself is compact and serviceable: Post Oak Park contains 19 campsites, and each of those 19 sites is set up to accommodate both RVs and tents and includes electric hookups. Facilities include flush and pit toilets, hot showers, drinking water and a dump station, so you'll find the basic conveniences needed for multi-night stays. Because the campground is small, spaces can fill quickly during peak season; fees, reservation rules, seasonal openings and any vehicle or boat access restrictions are set by the Corps of Engineers, so check the Corps' Copan Lake information before you go. You'll find Post Oak a practical base for boating, camping, hiking, picnicking and swimming, with quick access from Highway 10 about three miles west of Highway 75.
