“Excellent sites with good facilities. The park rangers and hosts were helpful and friendly. Would definitely recommend. ”
“Be prepared to encounter the campground host who believes it is his personal empire. ”
“We picked a spot to tent w electricity and once arrived realized that it was not a good site for tents. Was easily moved to a more accommodating site and was even refunded for the difference between cost in sites. Thanks. My girls had fun! ”

East Ashtabula Crossing sits on about 12 developed acres along Lake Ashtabula in eastern North Dakota, perched on a wooded hillside that shades most sites and looks out over the prairie pothole country carved by glacial action. The lake itself was formed by Baldhill Dam on the Sheyenne River in 1944 and the surrounding valley supports a mix of waterfowl, grassland birds and big-game species expect to see white pelicans in summer, plus white-tailed deer, sharp-tail grouse, wild turkey and gray partridge at various times of year. The broader Ashtabula Lake project manages nearly 3,000 acres of wildlife habitat open for hiking, birding and hunting; anglers come for walleye, northern pike, white bass, yellow perch and black bullhead, and the lake is well-equipped with multiple boat ramps, accessible fishing piers and fish-cleaning stations. In winter the area converts to snow-friendly pursuits: ice fishing and cross-country skiing are common, and the Sheyenne River Valley National Scenic Byway and nearby stretches of the North Country National Scenic Trail offer longer road and trail outings. The campground itself has 36 sites in two types 30 sites that accommodate both RVs and tents and 6 tent-only sites arranged among trees close to the shoreline and within easy walking distance of a boat ramp, fishing pier, dump station, restaurant and hiking trails. On-site amenities include a swimming beach, drinking water, flush toilets, a playground and a picnic shelter, and concession services around the lake supply fishing licenses and bait; for hunting and seasonal regulations contact the North Dakota Game and Fish Department. Roads to the park generally bring you north of Valley City (follow County Road 21 about 15 miles from I-94/Valley City), and the nearest town with full services is under 15 miles away. Fees, reservation windows and seasonal availability can change, so check the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Ashtabula Lake information or the official reservation system before you go to confirm rates, site hookups and current access conditions.
