“We had a great visit. Mosquitos were there but not crazy. The campground was super quiet and we could hear the waves at night when we were going to sleep. Awesome!”
“Pristine beach experience. Been coming here for years magical. ”

Frisco Campground sits on Hatteras Island among the shifting dunes and maritime vegetation of Cape Hatteras National Seashore, where the sound of the surf and a clear night sky are part of the daily rhythm. Elevated dunes give some sites ocean views and wooden boardwalks thread from the campground across the dunes to wide, hard-packed beaches where surfing, swimming, fishing, and beach driving take place; an off-road vehicle (ORV) ramp at the campground entrance provides access for permitted beach drivers (a Cape Hatteras ORV permit is required). At night the beam of the nearby Cape Hatteras Lighthouse is visible from the campground; the lighthouse, moved 2,900 feet in 1999 and now the tallest brick lighthouse in the United States, is a short drive away. Frisco is also a good base for broader seashore activities paddling in the sounds, wildlife viewing, snorkeling where conditions allow, and the auto-tour routes that run the length of the barrier islands so it suits campers who want both beach time and some variety in day trips. The campground is well outfitted for tenters and RVers but does not offer electrical or water hookups, so plan on self-contained power for RVs. There are 125 sites in all: 113 that accommodate both RVs and tents, 10 RV-only sites, and 2 tent-only sites spread across seven loops (Loop P is the largest with 69 sites; Loops A F contain 16, 11, 5, 10, 4, and 9 sites respectively). Each campsite has a paved parking pad, picnic table, and charcoal grill; campground facilities include modern restrooms with flushing toilets, potable water, and outdoor unheated showers, and dumpsters plus a recycling center at the entrance. Reservations and payments are handled through Recreation.gov (payment accepted only there), and changes or cancellations follow Recreation.gov's policies service fees may apply for modifications or refunds so check availability and rules on that site before you go. For facility-specific questions call (252) 475-9018.
