About

Warrior Creek sits on the south side of the 1,475-acre W. Kerr Scott Reservoir in the Yadkin River Valley just west of Wilkesboro, where the foothills of the eastern Blue Ridge give way to rolling forested ridges. The campground is threaded by the Warrior Creek trail system, a 17-mile loop of singletrack that follows the contours of the land and is recognized by the International Mountain Biking Association as among the top mountain-bike trails in the world; hikers and trail runners use the same access points that ring the campground. On the water, the reservoir supports boating, canoeing, kayaking and swimming from nearby Keowee Park, which also provides a boat ramp and three fishing piers (one ADA accessible). Anglers will find channel catfish, large and smallmouth bass, bluegill, threadfin shad, spotted bass, striped bass and hybrid striped bass, while the mixed hardwood forests sycamore, poplar, oak and hickory host white-tailed deer, occasional black bear, wild turkey, woodpeckers and a variety of songbirds. The campground itself offers 63 total campsites: 57 sites accommodate both RVs and tents and 6 are tent-only; there are also two group camping areas suited for larger gatherings. Many family sites provide electrical and water hookups appropriate for RV use, and the campground supports typical RV needs with a dump station, drinking water, showers and a mix of flush and vault toilets. On-site recreation includes an amphitheater, playground and basketball court in addition to the trail network; Keowee Park's ramp and piers are immediately adjacent for easy boat access. Practical details: camping and day-use payments are accepted by credit card only, refunds must be requested through recreation.gov (no refunds issued at the campground), and firewood and ice are sold by the Friends of the Lake via a cash-only honor vault. The site is reachable from the Wilkesboro area off Highway 268, roughly an hour from Winston-Salem and about 1.5 hours from Charlotte; seasonal availability and reservations should be confirmed on recreation.gov before you go.
