“Nice site with 4 tent pads, and room for more. Close to the bathrooms, visitor center, and Apgar. Bathrooms left some things to be desired, but they were clean. ”
“Nice size site. Limited parking for larger groups. Quiet and private. ”
“Check in was easy, the site was very nice and quiet, we had enough space for tents and cars.”

Glacier National Park
Open in Google Maps ↗
Apgar Group Sites sit in dense fir and cedar forest on the western edge of Glacier National Park, roughly a mile northeast of the West Glacier entrance and a short walk from the pebbled shore of Lake McDonald. At about 3,500 feet elevation this pocket of the park receives some of the region's highest rainfall, and mountain weather can be variable summer showers and even snow are possible while lower-elevation days can climb past 90°F. The campground puts you close to water-based recreation: Lake McDonald offers boating, paddling, swimming and cold-water fishing for species such as cutthroat, rainbow, bull and lake trout, whitefish and Kokanee salmon. Hikers have convenient access to a number of day routes, including the 3.3-mile Apgar Lookout Trail that climbs to a fire lookout above the lake, and a paved 1.5-mile bike and pedestrian path connects to the Apgar Visitor Center and Village where you can book boat rentals, shuttle service, horseback rides or the park's historic Red Bus Tours. The Going-to-the-Sun Road the park's 50-mile scenic drive passes nearby, making this a practical base for both short walks and longer auto touring days into the park's glacier-carved interior. The group campground contains seven reservable sites; each site is set up to accommodate both RVs and tents, and visitors should plan on sharing the loop's small number of sites with other groups on busy days. On-site facilities include flush toilets, drinking water, picnic tables and fire rings, and a campground host is present; nightly ranger programs are held at the nearby amphitheater. Apgar Village, just minutes away, provides a visitor center, a general store, gift shops and a casual restaurant for supplies and meals you don't want to cook at camp. Because wildlife from black and grizzly bears to wolverines and a wide variety of birds such as Harlequin ducks, dippers and golden eagles is common in Glacier, store food properly and follow park regulations; the sites are reservable in advance through the park's reservation system, and campers should check Glacier National Park resources for current policies, fees and seasonal opening information before arrival.
