North Dickey Lake Campground sits on a forested hillside at about 3,100 feet alongside an 800-acre lake, surrounded by stands of larch and fir that break up wide views of the water. The lake is the focal point here: you'll find opportunities for boating, water skiing, swimming and shore fishing for kokanee salmon, kamloop and rainbow trout, and a grassy beach and popular swimming spot are located across the water at the South Dickey Day Use area. Short trails thread the immediate area the accessible half-mile Dickey Lake Overlook Trail (also open to mountain bikes) leads to a viewing platform above the lake, and longer routes depart from the campground toward Mt. Marston. In spring and early summer, loons are often audible from campsites, and the Forest's broader offerings wildlife viewing, auto touring and OHV routes are close at hand for day trips. The campground itself contains 23 sites that accommodate both RVs and tents; five of those sites can be reserved in advance and the remainder are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Each site includes a picnic table and a campfire ring with a grill; parking areas are gravel. There are accessible vault toilets and drinking water on site, but no electrical or sewer hookups, so bring what you need and note that a dump station is available just north of Eureka on Highway 93 behind a gas station. A small cluster of services lies nearby: a general store with fuel and groceries is about 3 miles north, and a restaurant and coffee shop sit roughly 2 miles to the west. The campground is accessed from Highway 93 south of Eureka (just beyond Fortine), and it's about 20 miles from the Canadian border and roughly 65 miles from the entrance to Glacier National Park. Educational ranger programs run through the summer, making this a good base for anglers, paddlers, hikers and riders exploring Kootenai National Forest.
