“A wonderful, quiet, small site. It was nice to come back and relax after a busy day at Glacier National Park. About 20 minutes from the nearest town (ice, huckleberry pie and laundry), Hungry Horse. I never used the toilets, but didn't smell anything walking by either!”
“Wonderful site, quite, close to the river. Place out of your dreams.”
“Would have been better if I didn't have to listen to my neighbors portable generator literally all day for the two days I was there. Incredibly rude. Nice campground though.”

Doris Creek Campground sits along the western shore of Hungry Horse Reservoir high in the Rocky Mountains west of the Continental Divide and just south of the Canadian border. The setting is dominated by the wide ribbon of the 27,750-acre reservoir and the massive Hungry Horse Dam the dam that created the lake and remains a dramatic backdrop with forested slopes where lynx, grizzly bear and native bull trout live. There are 9 total campsites; all 9 are both RV sites and tent sites, and the campground is managed with a 16-consecutive-day stay limit. Five sites can be reserved in advance while four are held for walk-up visitors; roads and parking spurs are gravel but paved access leads to the campground from U.S. Highway 2 (turn at milepost 144 and follow Forest Road #895 across Hungry Horse Dam, then drive about 3 miles south of the dam). A campground host is on site to answer questions, and an accessible vault toilet is provided, but there is no potable water bring all your own drinking water. Recreation centers on the reservoir: boating is common and Doris Point Boat Launch above the campground provides a concrete ramp and ample parking, while swimming and trout fishing (including cutthroat) are frequent pastimes. Beyond the shore, Flathead National Forest offers hiking, biking, horseback riding and wildlife viewing; the area is also used for hunting, off-highway vehicle riding and winter sports depending on conditions. Each campsite includes a picnic table and a campfire ring with a grill; you may bring up to two motorized vehicles per site (the first vehicle is included in the site fee; an extra vehicle charge of $5.00 per vehicle per night is collected at the campground). To make reservations call 1-877-444-6777. If you need to cancel within the 4-day reservation window, refunds of camping fees will be considered by the concessionaire but the first night's fee is automatically forfeited; day-of-arrival cancellations must be reported by calling Cheryl at 406-752-PWAI (7924) or 406-404-4164. No-shows are not eligible for a refund.
