Baxter Campground sits along the White River Arm of Table Rock Lake in the Ozark Hills, reachable from Lampe by following Highway 13 and turning west onto Highway H for about five miles. The loop is sunny and open, shaded by surrounding oak and hickory forest, and offers 53 reservable campsites that accommodate both RVs and tents; sites include electric hookups and the campground provides hot showers, drinking water and a dump station for longer stays. A swim area, boat ramp and a small playground at the campground make it a practical choice for families, while a nearby full-service marina at Baxter supplies fuel, fishing licenses and rentals (from ski boats to life vests) so you can get on the water without a long drive. Gate attendants on site can answer questions but cannot make reservations; to reserve a site call the national reservation number at (877) 444-6777. Grocery, gas and other services are available about 23 miles away in Branson. Recreation here ranges from quiet shoreline pursuits to high-speed water sports: anglers come for crappie, catfish and bluegill, but Table Rock is most famous for its largemouth bass and draws fishermen from across the region, while scuba divers, tubers, wakeboarders and waterskiers regularly use the lake's deep, clear water. The campground is a good base for land activities too the two-mile Table Rock Lakeshore Trail runs from the Dewey Short Visitor Center to the state park marina and offers spring wildflowers and colorful fall foliage, and sections of the Mark Twain National Forest are nearby for longer hikes or mountain biking. The Dewey Short Visitor Center (at the dam) offers three interpretive films and exhibits on local natural history and has a courtesy dock for boat arrivals; several commercial boat cruises also operate on Table Rock Lake seasonally, adding another way to explore the shoreline.
