“Very nice campground! Well maintained and the bathrooms were clean and stocked. Beautiful lake, and a nice access point right in the campground. Nice hiking around the lake on a groomed trail created for winter time skiing. ”
“Camp sites were stacked on each other. My “neighbors” were so close I learned how to properly “stimulate” an elephant and artificially impregnate them. I also learned why all their phone contacts are listed in the manner they were.”

GOLDEN EAGLE LODGE
Open in Google Maps ↗
Flour Lake Campground sits on the quiet shore of 352-acre Flour Lake amid a stand of mixed hardwoods and pine, where several shallow bays attract loons, ducks, beavers, moose and the occasional bear along with bald eagles and songbirds. The site is about a 30- to 35-minute drive from Grand Marais: follow the Gunflint Trail north roughly 27 miles, turn east onto County Road 22 for about 3 miles, then a short half-mile on the campground road. The campground has 37 sites in total 33 that accommodate both RVs and tents and 4 tent-only sites and many sites include a picnic table and a campfire ring with grill; large RVs are easily accommodated. Amenities are straightforward and practical: accessible vault toilets, a solar-powered drinking water system, trash and recycling receptacles, a public boat ramp and a nearby fee dump station. Golden Eagle Lodge on the lake offers added convenience with watercraft rental, coin-operated showers and approved firewood for sale. Flour Lake is particularly popular with paddlers because two portages on the lake's eastern edge link to East Bearskin Lake and Moon Lake, providing direct access into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW). Anglers will find bass, walleye and lake trout in Flour Lake, and the campground serves as a base for broader activities in the Superior National Forest hiking, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, wildlife viewing, swimming, auto touring and winter sports are all available in the area. The half-mile Honeymoon Bluff Trail, a short walk up the road, opens onto a clear vista of Hungry Jack Lake; beyond that, the BWCAW offers over 1,200 miles of canoe routes, numerous hiking trails and more than 2,000 designated backcountry campsites. Entering the BWCAW requires a permit day-use permits are available at no charge from the campground host and some campground sites are reservable while others remain first-come, first-served; check the Superior National Forest recreation pages for current fees, seasonal dates and maps before you go.
