“Perfect spot after spending a week in the BWCA”
“Everything was clean, very quiet- perfect wooded setting. We loved that there were so many windows you could open in the camper cabin. ”

EAST BEARSKIN LAKE CAMPGROUND
Open in Google Maps ↗
East Bearskin Lake Campground sits on the shore of a 643-acre lake at the edge of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, about 26 miles up the Gunflint Trail from Grand Marais (Duluth visitors typically follow Highway 61 to Grand Marais and continue on the Gunflint Trail). The developed campground has 31 sites in all: 25 sites that accommodate both RVs and tents, two tent-only walk-in sites, and four small rental cabins (recorded as glamping sites). Campsites are arranged along one large loop and three smaller loops, all within walking distance of the water; each site includes an accessible fire ring with a grill grate and a picnic table. Vault toilets and a solar-powered drinking water system serve the campground, and a boat ramp gives direct access to the lake note that campsites do not list electrical or sewer hookups, so RV visitors should plan on a self-contained stay. The four cabins sleep either five or seven people (each has a single bed, a double bed and bunks; one cabin has an extra bed) but do not have running water, electricity, heating or cooking facilities, so guests must use campground toilet and water facilities and bring sleeping pads or bags, cooking gear, food and flashlights. The campground is popular with paddlers because the eastern bays of East Bearskin Lake lie within the Boundary Waters; portages from the lake link to Flour Lake and put you into the region's extensive network of routes. Day permits for non-motorized use can be purchased at the campground, but overnight and motor-use permits for the Boundary Waters must be obtained in advance plan ahead if you intend to travel deeper into the wilderness. On the lake anglers target bass, walleye and lake trout, and wildlife watchers commonly see loons, eagles, beavers, moose and black bears along the shallow bays and shoreline. Nearby services at Bearskin Lodge include boat and canoe rentals, fishing licenses, day-use permits, groceries, ice, firewood, maps and guide services, and a variety of land-based recreation options (hiking, mountain biking and cross-country skiing) are available on trails through the surrounding Superior National Forest.
