About

Clubhouse Lake Campground sits on the western shore of deep, clear Clubhouse Lake, where a stand of roughly 200-year-old red and white pines shades the campsites and frames the water. The lake drops to about 90 feet and supports northern pike, bass and panfish, making it a dependable spot for anglers; an accessible fishing pier and a sandy swimming beach are right at the water's edge, and canoeing and kayaking are common from the shoreline. Waters that flow into Clubhouse Lake feed the Rice River Canoe Route on its way to the Big Fork River, so you'll see paddlers setting off here as well. The campground hosts a kid's fishing day each June, run in partnership with the Big Fork Lion's Club and the Forest Service, and the broader Chippewa National Forest around the site offers opportunities for wildlife viewing, auto touring along Highway 38 (the Edge of the Wilderness scenic byway), and other outdoor pursuits. The campground contains 29 campsites that accommodate both RVs and tents; each site includes a picnic table and a campfire ring, and vault toilets plus hand-pumped drinking water are provided. A day-use area beside the beach makes it easy to picnic or relax by the lake during daylight hours. The Forest Service and Itasca County law enforcement routinely patrol the campground. Access is from Minnesota Highway 38 north of Grand Rapids to Marcell, then east on County Road 45 and north on Forest Road 2181 to the site; for exact seasonal openings and reservation information check the Forest Service recreation pages before you go. The nightly fee is $16.00. Nearby, the Marcell Discovery Center (just north of Marcell) offers exhibits and naturalist programs if you want a break from the water.
