Dog Creek Campground sits on the shoreline of Nolin River Lake amid the rolling forested hills of southern Kentucky, where the lake's distinctive blue-green water spreads over 5,795 acres behind Nolin Dam. The water and wooded shorelines make the area a strong draw for anglers Nolin ranks among Kentucky's top five lakes for catfish, bass, crappie and walleye and for paddlers, since much of the Nolin River's course lies inside Mammoth Cave National Park and makes for particularly scenic canoe trips. Boat ramps around the lake put powerboats and pontoons on the water easily, and the nearby Moutardier, Ponderosa and Wax marinas offer pontoon and jon-boat rentals, slips, bait, gas and small groceries. Trails thread the shoreline and adjacent forest (Shady Creek Trail in the Moutardier Recreation Area is noted for wildflowers), and the broader recreation area supports biking, picnicking, playgrounds, water sports, wildlife viewing and environmental-education opportunities that complement fishing and boating. The campground itself has 68 reservable sites that accommodate both RVs and tents, arranged into three loops Loop A with 25 sites, Loop B with 31 sites, and Loop C with 12 sites many positioned to give easy access to the lake and beaches. Sites include electric hookups and the campground provides flush toilets; the location is unstaffed, so for general information campers should call the main office at (270) 286-4511. Reservations are required for the reservable sites and carry administrative charges if changed or canceled: there is a $10 fee to cancel or to change site or dates once a reservation exists; cancellations made the day before, the day of arrival, or up to the day after arrival will be charged the first night's use fee; no-shows are charged a $20 fee plus the first night's use fee; and if a reservation is for one night and the first night's fee has been charged, the $10 service fee does not apply. Also note that no refunds for recreation-use fees may be made at the project. Dog Creek is roughly an hour to two hours' drive from regional cities (about 43 miles northeast of Bowling Green, about 81 miles southwest of Louisville, and about 107 miles north of Nashville), making it a convenient base for lake activities and a short drive or ferry ride to Mammoth Cave National Park.
