Mammoth Cave Campground sits just a short walk from the park Visitor Center and puts you close to both the underground labyrinth that gives the park its name and the overland trails that follow the Green River valley. The campground offers 111 primitive campsites 99 that can accommodate both RVs and tents, 2 RV-only sites, and 10 tent-only sites arranged around a paved parking area and tucked into stands of aromatic trees. Sites are grouped into four loops (Loop A: 10 sites; Loop B: 43 sites; Loop C: 37 sites; Loop D: 21 sites), with potable water and restrooms located on the inside of the loops. The campground's proximity roughly a five-minute walk to the Visitor Center means cave tours depart close at hand, and about 14 miles of hiking and biking trails are directly accessible from the campground. Early mornings and dusk commonly bring deer and wild turkeys through the campsites, and the Green River sits within walking distance for riverside scenery and easy access to paddling or swimming. Recreation options extend beyond the cave tours: the park supports biking, fishing, hiking, horseback riding and horse camping (most horseback trails lie north of the Green River), and nearly 30 miles of the Green and Nolin rivers provide paddling opportunities; commercial outfitters outside the park rent canoes, kayaks, horses and safety equipment. Facilities you should plan for include coin-operated showers located adjacent to the campground at the Caver's Camp Store (ask the store for current shower fees), and the campsites are primitive in character, so don't expect utility hookups. For reservations, fees, seasonal availability, cancellations and other rules, follow the park's reservation policies at https://www.recreation.gov/rules-reservation-policies. When planning your approach by car, don't rely solely on mobile GPS: from the north use I-65 Exit 53 (Cave City) onto KY-70/Mammoth Cave Parkway, from the south use I-65 Exit 48 (Park City) onto KY-255 into the park, then follow the Mammoth Cave Parkway toward the Visitor Center and turn left into the campground by the Caver's Camp Store.
