Tony B ★ 4 · Oct 2025Cherryvale is excellent, and was great the first couple of days , the problem was Friday night ,since there is no host the folks in G1 thought it was OK to blast music for about 4 hours and late into the evening. We have stayed there before and no issues . If there is no host then we need a number for a ranger or something to manage the location.
Brenda M ★ 5 · Oct 2025The camping spot was nice and clean.
Richard O ★ 5 · Oct 2025We met our friends who took a drive thru slot and us a back in slot. We loved the shade provided by the trees and the breezes thru them. Going for walks were enjoyable by us and our pets. It was good to see people picked up after their pets. Unfortunately our friends had to pick up cigarette buts left by the last campers. We left some firewood for campers across from us. Everyone seemed friendly and we did enjoy our stay.

Cherryvale Park sits on the clear water of Big Hill Lake in southeast Kansas, in the rolling oak-hickory country often called the Little Ozarks. The shoreline and surrounding hardwood ridges provide a mix of shaded campsite pockets and short walks down to the water; families will find a sand-covered, alcohol-free swimming beach with a change house and picnic areas a short distance from the sites. Anglers come here for a wide range of species largemouth and smallmouth bass, crappie, walleye, bluegill and channel and flathead catfish and the lake's combination of standing timber and stocked fish shelters has made it a popular spot for tournaments as well as casual fishing. For riders, Big Hill Lake Horse Trail winds 17 miles over varied terrain, with tethering spots and three trailhead parking areas that offer limited facilities and permit overnight camping for trail riders. The campground at Cherryvale Park offers 24 campsites total; each site is set up to accommodate both RVs and tents. Onsite conveniences include potable water, restrooms and showers, a playground, a dump station and a nearby boat ramp and fishing access; the broader Corps-managed park also provides group picnic and camping areas, a ballfield and additional day-use areas. Camping fees are collected at three of the park areas and a day-use fee applies to the beach and boat ramps contact the project office for current fee schedules and any reservation details. Access is simple from Cherryvale: the lake is about five miles east of town (reachable from Highway 169 through Main Street toward County Route 5000), and most of the park's day-use and trailhead facilities are signed from the main approach.
