“No cell service, cold, and very busy. No camp host, reserved spots are poorly marked and there were people set up in our reservation spot. The road up the mountain is sketchy.”
“They did not have potable water available. I wish I could have found out before so I would have been prepared. Otherwise, it was lovely.”

Meadow Lake Campground sits high in the Lemhi Range at 9,160 feet, an open alpine bowl along the shore of the 13.3-acre Meadow Lake and at the foot of 10,720-foot Meadow Lake Peak. The setting is a mix of short meadow and clusters of lodgepole and whitebark pine, and animals you're likely to see here include deer and mountain goats that move across the talus and near the shoreline. The campground is about 22 miles from Leadore and reached by leaving Highway 28 and following Forest Service Road 002, a gravel climb that gains roughly 2,080 feet over about six miles. Because the lake is stocked twice each year, many visitors come specifically for fishing you can fish from shore or carry a small boat down to the water, but note there is no boat ramp or dock and a handful of short trails leave directly from the site, including Trail #342, a gentle loop behind the campground, and Trail #057, which climbs up toward the ridge (the route to Meadow Lake Peak itself is not maintained by the Forest Service). The developed footprint at Meadow Lake is small and straightforward: there are two campsites in the campground and both are configured to accommodate RVs and tents, with a nearby day-use area that includes picnic tables, fire rings and barbecue pedestals. Visitors will find two vault toilets on site and a drinking water source, plus day-use parking. If you need more information on local routes, maps or nearby points of interest such as the Gilmore Ghost Town and other Forest Service recreation sites and trails stop at the Leadore Ranger Station before you head in. Be aware that a $8.00 non-refundable online reservation fee may be charged for some facilities, and plan accordingly for the gravel road access and the high-alpine conditions at camp.
