Loristica Group Campground sits high in the Lost Creek Range at about 8,100 feet, in a meadow threaded with Douglas fir, lodgepole pine and stands of aspen. The site is managed as a single reservable group campsite (one total campsite in the Forest Service system) that accepts both RVs and tents and is intended for large parties the campground description notes it can accommodate groups up to about 100 people. Facilities are intentionally minimal and rustic: you'll find picnic tables, metal fire rings, vault toilets and an amphitheater with a campfire circle for group programs or evening gatherings. Because of the elevation and backcountry setting, services are limited; plan on self-sufficiency, check current fire restrictions before using the campfire ring, and verify fees and reservation rules with Salmon Challis National Forest before you go. Recreational access is the campground's strongest draw. Two trailheads lie within a mile: the Bear Wet Creek Trail, which allows hiking, horseback riding and off-road vehicle use, and the Long Lost Wet Creek Trail, a non-motorized route that climbs to a high plateau with wide views toward the Little Lost and Big Mountain ranges. Wildlife is plentiful in the surrounding drainages expect to see deer and elk and, in the Big Creek area, watch for bighorn sheep; coyotes, foxes and occasional bears are also known in the neighborhood. The site is reached from Mackay by traveling south on Highway 93 and then following the signed forest access roads to Pass Creek Summit and the short spur to Loristica (roughly a 16-mile drive from town along highway and forest roads). Beyond the immediate trails, the broader Salmon Challis National Forest offers auto touring, biking, fishing, horseback riding, OHV routes, hunting, winter sports and interpretive opportunities check with the local ranger district for current road and trail conditions and any seasonal access limits.
