“Nice campground, clean rest rooms and camp sites have good room around them. Very beautiful mountain scenery. Only negative thing there is no water.”

Summit View Campground sits high in the Bear River Range, about eight miles east of U.S. Highway 30 near Georgetown, Idaho. You reach it by heading east from Georgetown on County Road 102 and turning onto Forest Road 095 (the Left Fork of Georgetown Canyon) for the final stretch; the forest road is unpaved, so expect dirt driving for the last several miles and check current road conditions before you go. The site is set among lodgepole pines with summer grasses and a scatter of wildflowers between campsites; in late summer and fall the area is known for abundant wild huckleberries. Facilities are simple and practical: there are 20 campsites that accommodate both RVs and tents, drinking water and vault toilets, an on-site amphitheater for group programs, and dirt roads and parking spurs throughout the campground. For recreation, Summit View is right in the Great Western Trail corridor, making it a convenient base for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding and off-highway vehicle travel along established routes. The Harrington Peak trail begins within the campground and climbs about 3.5 miles one way to the summit for those who want a solid day-hike. Beyond the immediate trail access, the broader Caribou-Targhee National Forest offers a wide range of activities from wildlife viewing and fishing or boating on nearby waters to winter sports and overnight stays in historic fire lookouts or cabins so plan your trip around the season and your interests. Because sites are basic and roads are unpaved, check with the Forest Service about fees, reservation options, seasonal openings and any vehicle or road restrictions before arriving.
