Rainbow Point Campground sits on the west shore of Lake Cascade at about 4,850 feet, a compact facility with 11 total campsites each a single-family site that can accommodate either tents or RVs. Sites are equipped with a picnic table, campfire ring and grill; several spots offer direct shoreline access or clear lake views. A public boat ramp is located inside the campground, and roads and parking spurs are gravel. Basic services include vault toilets, drinking water and trash collection, but there is no electricity available, so plan accordingly for lighting and charging. The trees around the sites are mixed-growth conifers and summer wildflowers are common; birdlife around the lake can include waterfowl, songbirds, pelicans and bald eagles. The campground is roughly 95 miles north of Boise via Highway 55 to the Donnelly area and then a short drive to the west shore of Lake Cascade, placing it within easy reach of the recreational opportunities of Boise National Forest. From the campground you can launch for boating, water skiing, canoeing, windsurfing or sailing, and anglers fish for rainbow trout, coho salmon, smallmouth bass and perch. Numerous hiking and biking trails thread the surrounding hills, and the forest offers other uses including horseback riding, hunting, OHV travel and winter sports in season. Because fees, reservation policies and seasonal openings are set by the Forest Service and can change, check current information with Boise National Forest or the official recreation reservation site before you go; note also that thinning work was scheduled in neighboring Amanita Campground in 2022 to reduce hazard trees.
