Porcupine Springs Campground sits at about 6,950 feet in a mixed pine and aspen stand along Rock Creek Road in the southern end of Sawtooth National Forest, roughly 31 miles south of Hansen via County Road G3/Forest Road 515 (which turns into Forest Road 500 and becomes gravel). The immediate setting is forested and open enough to let summer wildflowers carpet the ground; wildlife sightings are common along the creek and among the trees. The campground is a good base for trail-based exploration: several trailheads begin at or near the loop, including Porcupine Springs, Ross Falls, Rim View, Pike Mountain and Third Fork, and anglers regularly fish Rock Creek. Beyond the campground the broader forest supports many activities hiking, biking, horseback riding and off-highway vehicle routes, plus opportunities for boating, swimming and winter sports across the national forest so plan your trip around the specific trail or river access you want to use. On-site facilities reflect a mix of group and individual camping arrangements. The campground contains three group sites (each updated and outfitted with picnic tables, grills, serving and utility tables, and campfire circles; Loop C includes large horse corrals) and several single-family sites with a picnic table, grill, campfire ring and utility table; the current verified campsite count is 7 total campsites, and all 7 are suitable for both RVs and tents. Accessible vault toilets and drinking water are provided, a campground host is on duty, and internal roads and parking spurs are gravel. Some sites are available by reservation while additional sites are offered on a first-come, first-served basis; fees and seasonal availability can change, so check current conditions and any access notices from Sawtooth National Forest before you go.
