Deep Hole Recreation Area is a small U.S. Forest Service campground on a wide bend of the Toccoa River in the North Georgia mountains, roughly two hours north of Atlanta and a short drive north of Suches. The site contains nine campsites arranged in a single loop; all nine are configured to accommodate both RVs and tents, and sites 5 and 9 sit directly on the riverbank for immediate water access. There's one double vault toilet in the loop (closest to sites 1 4 and 9), but no potable water, electric hookups, or dump station, so come prepared to be self-sufficient. The area is open year-round, experiences the four seasonal shifts common to the Blue Ridge foothills, and the campground is managed as day-use exempt for registered campers there is a $5 day-use fee (paid at a fee tube on the information board) only for visitors who are not camping. Recreation at Deep Hole centers on the Toccoa River: there's a small launch area for tubing and kayaking, regular trout stocking from the nearby Chattahoochee National Fish Hatchery (about 5.5 miles away) during peak season, and easy shore fishing from several campsites. The campground makes a convenient base for exploring nearby creek fishing at Cooper and Rock Creeks, picking up supplies at Cooper Creek Store (about five minutes away), or spending a day in Blue Ridge with its galleries, restaurants, scenic railway and craft breweries less than 20 minutes away. Wildlife is abundant (deer, wild turkey, black bear and smaller furbearers), fall colors are especially vivid, and the Toccoa here is part of a nationally designated river trail, so whether you're floating, fishing, or simply watching the river, Deep Hole delivers a straightforward, riverside camping experience with minimal facilities.
