Frank Gross Campground sits alongside Rock Creek in the Ed Jenkins National Recreation Area of the Chattahoochee National Forest, roughly a two-hour drive north of Atlanta and about 30 minutes from the mountain town of Blue Ridge. The site is reached by a short, scenic five-mile run down Rock Creek Road during which the creek is visible much of the way; once inside the campground you'll find 8 campsites (TOTAL CAMPSITES: 8) laid out for privacy and usable as both RV and tent sites (8 Both RV Sites & Tent Sites). Two of those sites, numbered 2 and 5, are right on the creek for anglers who want immediate access to Rock Creek's trout waters. Facilities are minimal: there is one double vault toilet inside the loop, and there is no potable water, electrical hookups, or dump station plan to arrive self-contained. The nightly fee is $8.00 per night (year round); check with the U.S. Forest Service for the latest reservation or permit requirements before you go. The campground is a good base for anglers and hikers: Rock Creek and nearby Mill Creek are popular trout streams, the Chattahoochee National Fish Hatchery sits about a quarter mile downstream with interpretive displays and outdoor raceways, and long-distance trails are within easy driving distance the Benton MacKaye Trail crosses to the north and the Appalachian Trail lies roughly 4 miles to the south. Wildlife viewing is common here year-round; deer, wild turkey, black bear and various small furbearers inhabit the surrounding woodlands, and seasonal color changes in October draw many visitors. If Frank Gross is full, Cooper Creek Campground and Deep Hope Recreation Area are roughly a 15-minute drive away; Cooper Creek Store, about a mile off Highway 60, stocks basic camping supplies. For day trips, Blue Ridge offers galleries, restaurants and the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway, while family-run Mercier Orchards and several state parks and scenic byways are all within an easy drive so you can combine creekside solitude with a range of outdoor and cultural options in North Georgia.
