“Great spot. Clean and quiet campground, and the kids enjoyed riding their bikes around. Only about 30 minutes to the lake. Will definitely stay again!”
“We enjoyed the large campsite that had many trees and shade, while also being in easy walking distance to the restroom. The camp host was pleasant and helpful. She was present and attentive to activities in the campground. We enjoyed our stay.”

Kelsey Campground sits at about 7,400 feet on the Front Range roughly an hour southwest of Denver in the Buffalo Creek Recreation Area, offering a high-country mix of pines, granite outcrops and valley views the Kelsey Overlook is just north along County Road 126. The campground is a small, mostly family-oriented site with 17 campsites in total: 15 sites configured for both RVs and tents and 2 sites reserved for tent camping only. Days are generally mild in summer (75 80°F) with cool nights (55 65°F), and the nearby Buffalo Creek is a favored brook trout stream. The wider recreation area is built around a roughly 40-mile trail network that draws mountain bikers in particular but also serves hikers and horseback riders; Little Scraggy Trailhead sits about three miles north and provides access to the Colorado Trail and the Buffalo Burn Trail, while Shinglemill Trail and other trailheads are close enough for day rides or hikes. Wildlife sightings are common elk, mule deer, wild turkey and small mammals like chipmunks and porcupines are regularly seen and rock climbers and anglers will find plenty to occupy several days. Facilities at Kelsey are basic and rustic: each site includes a picnic table and a campfire ring with grill, vault toilets are provided, and drinking water is available from a hand pump; there are no hookups. Reservations and cancellations follow the Recreation.gov policies for the site: cancellations made up to two days before arrival incur a $10 fee; cancelling the day before or on the day of arrival results in a $10 service fee and forfeiture of the first night's use fee (including tax and applicable add-ons); cancelling a one-night reservation forfeits the entire payment. No-shows are assessed a $20 service fee and forfeit the first night's rate, taxes and applicable add-ons. Refund requests must be submitted through your Recreation.gov profile within seven days after your reservation ends; refunds to cards are credited back to the original card, and cash or check refunds are issued by Treasury check (which can take 6 8 weeks). Emergency closures will result in full refunds. For campground-specific questions or the latest conditions call the Buffalo Creek office at (303) 647-2366, and remember that unmanned aircraft (drones) are regulated on these federal lands and must be operated in compliance with Forest Service rules.
