Green Ridge Campground sits along the southern edge of Shadow Mountain Reservoir and beside the Colorado River at about 8,300 feet, offering direct lake access and a high-alpine forest setting southwest of Grand Lake. The site layout includes 72 campsites divided between two loops Loop A with 37 sites and Loop B with 35 with 62 sites configured for both RVs and tents, four RV-only sites and six tent-only sites; most campsites are single-family, and the campground also includes one double and one triple-capacity site. Practical amenities are straightforward and convenient: picnic tables, campfire rings, tent pads, a boat ramp and dock inside the campground for easy launching, drinking water, flush and vault toilets, and a host who sells firewood (you may also gather firewood in the forest where permitted). Note that a mountain pine beetle infestation has removed much of the shade canopy, so expect limited tree cover now and plan for strong sun exposure; afternoon thunderstorms are common in summer, and the campground has been replanted with seedlings since 2008 to restore the tree cover over time. Recreation at Green Ridge centers on water and trail access. Shadow Mountain Lake part of the Arapaho National Recreation Area supports boating, swimming and fishing for kokanee salmon and several trout species (rainbow, brown, mackinaw and cutthroat), and the campground hosts a boat ramp and dock for anglers and paddlers; National Fishing Week is observed the first week of June. On land, numerous trails and horse routes are within easy reach, including the East Shore Trail (a segment of the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail), Roaring Fork Trail and Monarch Lake Trail, and the area supports horseback riding, hiking and wildlife viewing. The broader Arapaho & Roosevelt National Forests offer a wide range of activities from auto touring, biking and climbing to fire lookout cabin stays, OHV use, interpretive programs and winter sports and Rocky Mountain National Park's west entrance is nearby for high-country day trips. For current fees, reservation rules and seasonal access, check with Arapaho & Roosevelt National Forests or the official recreation site before you go.
