Stillwater Campground sits on the northern shore of Lake Granby at about 8,300 feet, roughly six miles southeast of Grand Lake and a short drive north from Granby on Highway 34 (the campground is on the east side of the road). The developed campground contains 103 sites laid out in three loops Loop A (38 sites), Loop B (32 sites) and Loop C (33 sites) with 73 sites configured for both RVs and tents and 30 designated tent-only. On-site facilities include a boat ramp and dock for easy access to Lake Granby, flush and vault toilets, coin or token showers, drinking water and a dump station. Because a recent mountain pine beetle removal reduced tree cover, expect little to no shade in many sites and be prepared for strong afternoon summer storms that move in quickly at this elevation. The campground is part of the larger Arapaho National Recreation Area, so boating, sailing, swimming and a strong trout fishery (kokanee salmon plus rainbow, brown, mackinaw and cutthroat trout) are focal points; National Fishing Week takes place the first week of June. Trails for day hikes and horseback rides including access to the East Shore Trail (part of the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail), Roaring Fork and Monarch Lake trails begin nearby, and amenities of the region support a wide range of activities from wildlife viewing and picnicking to winter sports and auto touring. An Arapaho National Recreation Area pass is required for lake access and can be purchased online (interagency annual and access passes are accepted); see https://www.recreation.gov/activitypass/ed5a5e18-64c9-11eb-b2a1-ce9547b3d27e for details.
