“ The lower loop of the Aspen Glade campground is right along the Conejos River. The campground is clean and has a very friendly campground host. We enjoyed walking the trail along the river and exploring the Elk Creek Trail nearby. We’ll go back for sure. ”
“This campsite is fantastic! I highly recommend a site in the upper loop or down by the river. Lots of trees and shade.”
“Great location, facilities well kept and camp host was super friendly and helpful. ”

Aspen Glade Campground sits alongside the fast-moving Conejos River at about 8,500 feet, where the sound of water undercuts the hush of tall spruce, aspen and fir in Loop C and the more open Ponderosa pines of Loops A and B. The site mix is straightforward and flexible: 30 reservable campsites that accommodate both RVs and tents, laid out on grassy, pine-needle topped understory with easy walking access to the river. Facilities are basic but dependable vault toilets and drinking water are available on site so bring what you need for cooking and comfort at high elevation. Wildlife is common; deer and elk move through the area and bears are present, and birdwatching from your camp chair is a frequent reward. Because trees shade many sites and the campground is generally quiet, evenings are good for stargazing once the canyon quiets down. Fishing is the centerpiece of the location: just upstream from the campground a stretch of the Conejos is designated "Gold Medal" trout water, one of only 168 miles out of Colorado's roughly 9,000 trout-stream miles so anglers should expect top-tier trout fishing. Hikers can pick up the nearby Sheep Creek Trail, and a scenic drive on Forest Road 250 follows the Conejos Canyon for broad views of the river and cliffs. For a fuller day trip, the historic Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad runs a 64-mile steam-engine route through the region's old mining towns. Aspen Glade is reached by heading west from Antonito on Highway 17 for about 15 miles; because services, fees, seasonal openings and any access advisories can change, sites are reservable and campers should call the campground for facility-specific information and updates at (805) 434-1996 before they go.
