About

Table Mountain Campground sits high in the San Gabriel Mountains about 2.4 miles west of Wrightwood on State Route 2 (the Angeles Crest Highway), at roughly 7,000 feet where summer afternoons commonly reach the low 80s and nights grow noticeably cool. The site's terrain mixes oak- and pine-covered slopes with two open meadows and offers immediate access to the Table Mountain Nature Trail that threads the campground good for birdwatching (look for jays, woodpeckers and occasionally condors), deer and small mammals. For longer outings, the campground is a handy base for mountain biking and hiking on nearby routes such as the Blue Ridge Trail and the Pacific Crest Trail, and the Angeles Crest Scenic Byway itself is a driving highlight, moving through chaparral, oak thickets and higher-elevation pine stands. The small ski-resort town of Wrightwood is close by for supplies, restaurants and a disc golf course at the North Resort, so you can combine trail time with town amenities in a single trip. Table Mountain offers 104 campsites in total, 103 of which are configured to accommodate both RVs and tents while one site is tent-only; campsites vary from level meadow locations to more shaded, hilly sites and most have paved spurs and a metal fire ring. Practical amenities are straightforward: vault toilets are scattered through the loops, potable-water spigots appear at roughly every six sites, and the campground's layout includes smaller loops such as MOHA (9 sites), OSAG (7 sites), PIMA (9 sites) and ZUNI (21 sites). An amphitheater on site is available for day use only (up to 150 guests and 30 vehicles) and must be reserved through Tyler Shippy (tyler_shippy@mthigh.com or (888) 754-7878 ext. 7834); for other facility-specific questions, call (760) 316-7828. Because seasonal conditions and fees can change at this elevation, check with the campground before you arrive for up-to-date reservation policies, access advisories and any seasonal closures.
