“There was no fires allowed, no gas stoves allowed, and the road was covered in dirt and brush and the campsite host wasnt even there.”
“The Camp Host was wonderful! The flush toilets were kept clean and well stocked. We had a great time doing a night hike around Jackson Lake (which was conveniently located right across the highway!). We definitely see ourselves returning next season!”
“The campgrounds are very pretty, with a lot of trees and shade throughout. Because it is hilly, we could only see two or three other campsites next to ours, which was nice.”

Mountain Oak Campground sits at about 6,400 feet in the Angeles National Forest, shaded by oaks, ponderosa and sugar pines and carpeted with pine needles and leaves. The campground is a single-loop layout with 15 sites in total; all 15 are listed as accommodating both RVs and tents, though sites are fairly close together and offer more shade than privacy. Basic amenities include flush toilets, drinking water, picnic tables and grills, and the Forest Service provides bear-proof food containers on site; a camp host is regularly present and sells firewood. Because the loop is compact and the landscape is open between sites, expect a quiet, wooded setting rather than secluded sites. A short drive from Wrightwood off State Route 2 onto Pines Highway (County Route N4) brings you to small Jackson Lake, a 3-acre mountain basin formed along the San Andreas Fault and fed mainly by snowmelt. The lake is the closest in the Wrightwood area and is stocked with trout and bluegill for fishing; powerboats aren't permitted, so canoeing and swimming are the common ways to use the water. Hikers will find trail access nearby including longer routes that connect with the Pacific Crest Trail and local options such as the Blue Ridge Trail and the broader Angeles National Forest supports biking, horseback riding, OHV use in designated areas, interpretive programs, fire lookouts/cabin stays and abundant wildlife viewing (bobcat, mountain lion, bear and Nelson bighorn sheep have been recorded in the forest). For up-to-date information on fees, reservations and seasonal conditions, check with the Angeles National Forest office or recreation.gov before you go.
